Newsletter - February 2006

Dubai, 19 to 21 March

I believe that FCIB is putting on a truly outstanding Programme in Dubai next month. It includes presentations by two gurus of international credit in Hans Belcsak and Pat Connelly, who will present respectively on Middle East and Asia Pacific In Review – A Credit Perspective – and The Role of Credit in Business Development, as will as a Trade Finance Forum given by three senior executives from the banking sector on Information Logistics for International Trade and the Evolving Role of Trade Finance in the Key Business Development Markets of the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
I understand that it is difficult for many of FCIB’s European members to attend, but if you have credit colleagues in local GCC offices, distributors or dealers, whom you feel it would benefit to attend, please forward the attached Programme with your recommendation to them.

Farewell and Good Luck-Ken Garrison
Many European members will have been sorry to learn that FCIB President and C.O.O. Ken Garrison left office in January. Ken was a tremendous guide and supporter of FCIB in Europe as well as being the driving force behind the International Credit and Risk Management Online Course and the key membership development initiatives in China and India. I know you will join me in wishing him every success in his future career. The recruitment of his successor is underway. In the meantime, his deputy, Aneta Spilman, will be looking after membership needs in North America.

Farewell and Good Luck-Kari Makikarki
At the end of this month Kari Makikarki is retiring from Kaukomarkkinat Oy after 40 years service in both sales and finance in various parts of the world. He has been a highly distinguished member of FCIB for 25 years and his considerable contribution to FCIB includes-: European Advisory Councillor from 1985 to 1992, FCIB Board Member from 1993 to 1996, FCIB Europe Conference Moderator, FCIB Europe Conference Panellist on 6 occasions, Presenter at FCIB Global Conferences in New York, FCIB Honorary Representative for Finland.

Please join me in wishing Kari a long and happy retirement. I am delighted that he has agreed to remain as FCIB’s Honorary Representative in Finland for the time being.
